Jack McLiney has become passionate about the sport of skiing after practicing most of his life. Skiing offers unique challenges from other sports and is a great way to stay active during the winter months.
Jack McLiney particularly loves skiing at his favorite ski resort, Taos Ski Valley in Taos, New Mexico. Taos Ski Valley is one of the top ski resorts in North America, located in the Southern Rockies of Northern New Mexico. It has been family owned and operated for over 50 years, offering fun and unique challenges for skiers and riders of all ages and skill levels.
Growing up skiing at Taos, Jack McLiney has explored nearly all of the 110 trails spread out across 1,294 acres of the mountain. Taos Ski Valley has 15 total lifts including 4 quad chair lifts, 3 triple chair lifts, 5 double chair lifts and 3 surface lifts. It has a base elevation of 9,200 feet and a summit elevation of 12,481 feet at Kachina Peak.
Jack McLiney loves skiing at Taos Ski Resort as it offers a different experience from most other major mountains. It is clear that the people running Taos love skiing and are passionate about what they do. They put the mountain and its skiers first before everything else.
Taos Ski Valley nearly always has fresh powder and clear blue sunny skies. The views from the top of the mountain are extremely beautiful, especially during sunset. For a big mountain, it has a quaint and laid back atmosphere for all to enjoy. There are also plenty of fun events going on year round including live bands, scavenger hunts, races, festivals, charity events, and of course the annual pond skimming championships.
At the end of every ski season, Taos Ski Valley holds a pond skimming event where competitors use any means necessary to skim across an 80 foot pool of freezing cold water. People who dress up in costumes earn extra points. Jack McLiney looks forward to the pond skimming championships every year. They are a great way to bring an end to the wonderful ski season and welcome the warm and beautiful weather of spring.
